    Joel Fabiani (born September 28, 1936) is an American film, television and theater actor. Known for his leading role in the British TV series Department S, Fabiani has guest starred in The FBI, Barnaby Jones, The Streets of San Francisco, Banacek, Cannon, The Rockford Files and Starsky and Hutch.

    His film appearances include Looking for Mr. Goodbar (1977); Reuben, Reuben (1983) and Tune In Tomorrow (1990), and he has also had recurring roles in soap operas such as Dalla

    Biography

    A stage, TV, and film actor, Joel Fabiani appeared in supporting roles in some memorable films and TV series throughout the 1970s and in daytime soaps in his later career. After serving briefly in the Army, Fabiani studied English in college and moved on to the Actors Workshop in San Francisco, where he studied drama for two years. He then headed to Broadway, where he made his debut in a 1962 production of "The Affair." Throughout the decade he alternated between commercial work and screen and stage acting until he won the steady leading role of Stewart Sullivan on the British Interpol drama "Department S." His two-year stint on the series raised his profile enough for him to win parts on dozens of 1970s prime time shows, like popular cop series "The Streets of San Francisco" and "Starsky and Hutch."     Joel Fabiani was born in Watsonville, California, as the youngest of three children. His father was part Italian, part Austrian, while his mother was part Irish, part Native American. He didn't get the acting bug until he went to college, after a stint in the Army. After majoring in English at Santa Rosa Junior College, Fabiani went to San Francisco to study at the Actors Workshop for two years. During that time (1960-62), he was married to Katharine Ross, who was also at the Workshop.

    Fabiani left California for New York. He married actress Audree Rae, whom he met while doing "One Way Pendulum", and found his first success in theater. His Broadway debut was in "The Affair" in 1962. His television debut was on the CBS religious schema "Look Up and Live" a year later.
