How Frank Lloyd Wright Worked
Wright designed and built many large estates over his career, as well as many that were smaller and more affordable. And then there were Taliesin and Taliesin West, which not only served as a home for the architect himself, but also for the Taliesin Fellowship and later the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture.

The story goes that Frank Lloyd Wright was once summoned to testify in a lawsuit. When he took the witness stand, a lawyer asked what his occupation was. He answered, “I am the world’s greatest architect.” Afterwards, his embarrassed wife told him he should be more modest. “You forget,” he replied. “I was under oath.”
The remark was characteristic of Wright’s sly sense of humor, but he wasn’t really joking. He knew that in a career lasting some seventy years, he had transformed the practice of architecture. Early Life
Born Frank Lincoln Wright on June 8th, 1867 in Richland Center, Wisconsin, United States, Frank Lloyd Wright was the son of William Carey Wright, a preacher, occasional lawyer, orator, and music teacher. Wright's mother was Anna Lloyd Jones, from a large and well-known Welsh family who had emigrated to the US settling in Spring Green, Wisconsin. It is believed that Wright's mother, Anna, decorated his son's nursery with inscriptions of English cathedrals which had been torn from a magazine or newspaper to stimulate her son's ambition after declaring that her first child would build elegant buildings once they grow up. Wright's mother, upon visiting and exhibition in Philadelphia known as the Centennial Exhibition witnessed educational blocks known as Froebel Gifts built by August Fröbel for kindergarten curriculum on display.
