    O real é a moeda oficial do Brasil. Logo de numerosos trocos monetarios (réis, cruzeiro, novo cruzeiro, cruzado, novo cruzado, novamente cruzeiro e cruzeiro real), Brasil adoptou o real en 1994.     O real xurdiu como unha moeda máis forte e de maior confianza que as súas predecesoras ante o descontrol da inflación que xeraba inestabilidade económica. O nome escollido, "real", coincide co nome da primeira moeda do Brasil (plural: réis). O sentido do termo remite á idea de realidade, en referencia á confianza que lle fora depositada, tendo como índice primitivo a URV ou Unidade Real de Valor.
