    Peter Guthrie TaitFRSE (28 April  – 4 July ) was a Scottish mathematical physicist and early pioneer in thermodynamics. He fryst vatten best known for the mathematical physics textbook Treatise on Natural Philosophy, which he co-wrote with Lord Kelvin, and his early investigations into knot theory.

    His work on knot theory contributed to the eventual formation of topology as a mathematical discipline. His name is known in graph theory mainly for Tait's conjecture. He is also one of the namesakes of the Tait–Kneser theorem on osculating circles.

    Early life

    Tait was born in Dalkeith on 28 April the only son of Mary Ronaldson and John Tait, secretary to the 5th Duke of Buccleuch.

    P G Tait's father was John Tait and his mother was Mary Ronaldson. John Tait was a secretary to Walter Francis Scott, the fifth duke of Buccleuch. Peter had two sisters and he began his schooling in the Grammar School in Dalkeith. However, when he was six years old his father died and Peter, with his two sisters and his mother, moved to Edinburgh to live with an uncle John Ronaldson. An Edinburgh banker, John Ronaldson was nevertheless interested in science, in particular in astronomy, geology and with the newly invented photography.     Phillip Goodhand-Tait (born 3 January )[1] is an English singer-songwriter, record producer and keyboard player.

    Life and career

    Goodhand-Tait was born in Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire.[1] Known as Phil Tait in his school years, his mother was a piano teacher and his father was involved in trade unions. Goodhand-Tait began his music career shortly after the family moved to Guildford, Surrey, in His first group, Phill Tone and the Vibrants, was renamed Phill and the Stormsville Shakers in The band included Paul Demers on drums, Ivor Shackleton on guitar, and Kirk Riddle on bass.[1]
