    Chubby Checker (born Ernest Evans; October 3, 1941) is an American singer and dancer. He is widely known for popularizing many dance styles, including the Twist dance style, with his 1960 hit cover of Hank Ballard & The Midnighters' R&B song "The Twist", and the pony dance style with the 1961 cover of the song "Pony Time". His biggest UK hit, "Let's Twist Again", was released one year later (in 1962); that year, he also popularized the song "Limbo Rock", originally a previous-year instrumental hit by the Champs to which he added lyrics, and its trademark Limbo dance, as well as other dance styles such as The Fly.     I have a special place in my heart for Chubby Checker, growing up I knew who he was of course and I had heard “The Twist” and was very familiar with his part in musical history due to the popularity of that song but I did not know he was born in South Carolina so lucky me I get to tell my “Chubby” story! It was the 80’s and I was playing in a band with Mike Amos out of Orangeburg, SC. Mike was someone inom looked up to both for his guitar skills and his knowledge of music in general, (the guy knows a lot about a lot when it comes to music trends and the industry). I remember coming in for practice one night and Mike put an skiva on the turntable and dared me to guess who it was - kicking off with “Running”, “I’ve Got Love”, “Harder Than Diamonds” and by the time a brilliant interpretation of the Stones classic “Under My Thumb” faded out I was bought and sold - It was then Mike grinned and revealed “that’s Chubby Checker’s new release “The Change Has Come”.
