Roderick Gordon (born November ) is a British author, best known for Tunnels, a bestselling children's book and the first book in the Tunnels series by Roderick Gordon and Brian Williams.
Biography
[edit]Born in November , Roderick grew up in Highgate, North London. Chronically shy throughout his childhood, he sought refuge in drawing and writing, and whilst at the ingÄng School, Hampstead, he had his first short story published in the school magazine, at the age of twelve. He went on to public school at Oundle, and then attended University College, London, where he read biology (specializing in genetics). It was here that he met his future collaborator on the Tunnels series of books, Brian Williams, who was at the Slade School of Fine Art. They became friends in the summer of , and kept in touch until, some twenty-three years later, they finally began to cooperate on their writing.[1]

Tunnels is a subterranean fiction novel by British authors Roderick Gordon and Brian Williams. It was initially self-published as The Highfield Mole in , and re-released as Tunnels by The Chicken House in The story follows Will Burrows, a year-old 'archaeologist', who stumbles upon an underground civilization called The Colony. Will and his friend Chester flee The Colony and set out to find Will's father, in the Deeps, a place even deeper in the Earth than The Colony.
Tunnels was critically well received, although some complaints about its lengthy, slow start were recorded. The book placed on The New York Times Children's Chapter Books Bestseller List in February and March It is the first book in the Tunnels series, and was followed by Deeper (), Freefall (), Closer (), Spiral () and Terminal (). BBC Audiobooks and Recorded Books have released audio editions.
