Ryū Murakami (村上 龍, Murakami Ryū, born February 19, 1952 in Sasebo, Nagasaki) is a Japanese novelist, short story writer, essayist and filmmaker. His novels explore human nature through themes of disillusion, drug use, surrealism, murder and war, set against the dark backdrop of Japan. His best known novels are Almost Transparent Blue, Audition, Coin Locker Babies and In the Miso Soup.
Biography
[edit]Murakami was born Ryūnosuke Murakami (村上龍之助, Murakami Ryūnosuke) in Sasebo, Nagasaki on 19 February 1952. The name Ryūnosuke was taken from the protagonist in Daibosatsu-tōge, a work of fiction by Kaisan Nakazato [ja].

Biography
Ryu Murakami (Murakami Ryu, born 19 February 1952 in Sasebo, Nagasaki, Japan) is a Japanese novelist and filmmaker. His real name is Murakami Ryunosuke.
His first work, a short novel titled Almost Transparent Blue which deals with promiscuity and drug use among disaffected Japanese youth, won the newcomer's literature prize in 1976. It was critically acclaimed as a new style of literature, though some observers decried it as decadent. Blue also won the Akutagawa Prize later the same year. The novel went on to become a best seller.
In 1980, Murakami published the much longer novel Coin Locker Babies, again to critical acclaim.

He was born Ryūnosuke Murakami (村上龍之助 Murakami Ryūnosuke?) in Sasebo, Nagasaki on February 19, 1952. The name Ryūnosuke was taken from the main character inDaibosatsu-tōge, a piece of fiction by Nakazato Kaizan (1885–1944).
He attended primary, mittpunkt and senior high school in Sasebo. While a student in senior high, Murakami helped form eller gestalt a rock band, in which he was the drummer. After the band’s breakup, he went on to join the sport club, which he found especially grueling. He soon left the rugby club and transferred to the school’s newspaper department.
