    Corporal Jason Lee Dunham was born in Scio, New York, on November 10,   He was a basketball player who graduated from Scio High School in and enlisted in the US Marine Corps shortly after.

    He was first sent to Kings Bay, Georgia, before deploying to Iraq with the 7th Marine Regiment in   

    Corporal Jason Lee Dunham earned a Congressional Medal of Honor on April 14,   While supporting another Marine Corps convoy under attack.  While bringing the enemy combatants under control, one of the attackers dropped an armed grenade.  Corporal Dunham attempted to use his helmet to shield himself and his unit from the shrapnel.  He was severely injured by the explosion and evacuated.  Corporal Jason Lee Dunham succumbed to his injuries on April 22, , at the National Naval Medical Center.

    President Bush announced today that Cpl. Jason Dunham, who died more than two years ago after covering a grenade with his helmet to save his fellow Marines, will receive the Medal of Honor.

    This will be the first Medal of Honor &#; the nation&#;s highest award for battlefield heroism &#; bestowed on a Marine in the Iraq war and the first earned for combat action since , during the Vietnam War.

    Jason Lee Dunham (10 November - 22 April ) was a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions on 14 April while serving with 3rd Battalion 7th Marines during the Iraq War

    Dunham is the first Marine to receive the Medal of Honor for actions in the War on Terror; the first Marine to receive the Medal of Honor since the Vietnam War; and the second recipient of the Medal of Honor for actions in the Iraq War.
